Walmart Thanksgiving Hours 2026: Closed November 26

Walmart is closed on Thanksgiving under its current published policy. In 2026, that is Thursday, November 26. The closure is clear; the useful planning questions are when to collect groceries, how recurring deliveries move, and which Friday hours apply to your store.

THE USEFUL PART FIRST

Walmart stores are closed on Thanksgiving. Its Subscribe terms, updated June 3, 2026, state that holiday closure directly. Thanksgiving falls on November 26 this year. Finish store errands before then; exact Wednesday department hours and Friday reopening times still require the selected location’s schedule.

The current policy confirms the closure

The Walmart Subscribe terms were updated on June 3, 2026. Section 2.6 explains that stores close on Thanksgiving and Christmas and describes how that affects recurring deliveries. This is current company policy, rather than a prediction made by copying a previous year’s holiday article.

Walmart’s separate Event Support page also records the Thanksgiving 2025 closure, but its dated Wednesday and Friday details are historical. Use the standing policy for the closure itself and your selected store’s holiday notice for the days on either side. A normal Thursday listing does not override the holiday closure.

Plan the main grocery trip before the holiday

Build the list around the meal and household items you actually need, then check what is already at home. Separate ingredients with little flexibility from those you can replace if unavailable. That lets you choose substitutions deliberately instead of deciding under pressure after an order is picked.

For a shared meal, assign each person a category and quantity. “Bring drinks” and “bring 12 individual drinks” are different requests. A combined list can reveal duplicates and omissions before the last shopping trip, reducing the chance that one missing item makes the whole plan depend on a holiday opening.

Reserve a usable pickup or delivery slot

Choose the store, address and date before relying on a pickup or delivery option. The displayed slot is the relevant availability for that order; a general delivery advertisement does not reserve time for your holiday basket. Save the confirmed window and the instructions for whoever will receive it.

After ordering, review the final substitutions and unavailable items. A placed order is not evidence that every original item will be supplied. If an ingredient is essential to the planned recipe, decide what substitute works or arrange a fallback before the final practical shopping window.

Handle bakery and pharmacy tasks on their own timelines

A customized cake or bakery order needs its own preparation and collection confirmation. Do not assume that a grocery pickup time automatically includes a decorated order placed through another route. Keep the bakery message, store and collection instructions with the person responsible for that item.

For prescriptions, use the pharmacy’s ready status and department hours. If a refill may be needed around the holiday, discuss the timing with the pharmacy before the last day. This is a medication-access task, not a reason to alter a prescribed schedule to fit an assumed store closure.

Make a short last check before Wednesday’s trip

Check the quantities and nonfood items that are easy to overlook: serving utensils, containers for leftovers, batteries for something you plan to use and any paper goods. Decide what is essential and what is optional so a missing decoration does not consume the time needed for the meal.

For an illustrative ten-person dinner, planning ten place settings plus two spare is a clear quantity of twelve, not a vague “large pack.” Apply the same count to drinks or take-home containers if those are part of the plan. These are planning examples, not a recommendation for a particular product.

Separate the holiday closure from Black Friday shopping

A store’s Thanksgiving closure does not establish the start time of online promotions or the opening time of a later sale. Check the official 2026 event details for the exact offer. A product in an online cart is not reserved inventory, and an advertised price does not guarantee local pickup.

If you plan a Friday purchase, save the exact model, seller, fulfillment method and price you are comparing. Similar product names can conceal different sizes or specifications. Set a budget before the sale so the opening time does not become pressure to buy an unsuitable item.

A subscription delivery can move to Wednesday

If an eligible Walmart Subscribe order would ordinarily arrive on Thanksgiving, the current terms move it to the day before. In 2026 that means Wednesday, November 25. Walmart says it sends the usual reminder and lets you cancel, skip, edit or change that order’s delivery date or time before processing.

Read the reminder against your actual plans. A household leaving town Wednesday may need to skip or move the delivery, while a household hosting dinner may need a different quantity. Also check whether a separate grocery order now duplicates the subscription. Change the relevant order before its stated processing cutoff; canceling a general shopping trip does not cancel a recurring order.

This rescheduling rule belongs to the subscription service. It is not a promise that every ordinary pickup order, Marketplace package or delivery on the calendar will automatically move to Wednesday. For those purchases, use the order’s own date and any direct update from Walmart or the seller.

Questions that come up

Is Walmart closed on Thanksgiving 2026?

Yes. Walmart’s current Subscribe terms state that stores close on Thanksgiving. In 2026 the holiday falls on Thursday, November 26.

Can I use a 2025 holiday-hours article for this year?

Use it as history only. The date, weekday, department and current local schedule need to match your 2026 trip.

Will online shopping stop if stores close?

A physical closure and website ordering are separate. Use the order’s actual fulfillment dates and official promotion times.
