Check your airline's rules first, then compare the suitcase's full exterior dimensions, including wheels and handles. Separate overhead carry-on, under-seat personal-item and checked-bag requirements. Choose features around how you pack and move.
Use the airline's limit as a shopping filter
Look up the allowance for the airline and fare you will actually fly. Save the permitted dimensions, weight and number of bags. If your journey uses multiple airlines, check each relevant allowance rather than assuming the first one applies throughout.
Samsonite's carry-on guide also directs travelers to check airline requirements. A product's nominal size may describe a different measurement from the overall exterior. If a listing gives only the case-body height, look for a manufacturer diagram before deciding it fits.

Compare how the bag moves and opens
Think through the least convenient part of the journey: a staircase, a narrow train aisle, a crowded hotel room or a long walk. Compare handles you can actually use for lifting, wheel arrangement, handle adjustment and the empty weight. More features are not automatically more useful.
A clamshell case needs space to open both halves. A front pocket may make documents easier to reach, but check its usable size rather than assuming it takes your laptop. Expansion is useful only if the expanded case still meets the limit that matters to you.
Decide whether you need a set
Walmart sells individual bags and luggage sets across several formats. Before choosing a set, assign each included piece a real job. A small pouch or cosmetic case may count toward the advertised piece total without replacing a travel bag.
Compare the set's total with buying only the sizes you expect to use. Check whether the bags nest for storage and whether every piece has the features shown on the largest case. A matching appearance does not prove identical locks, lining or pockets.
Inspect the suitcase before the trip
While it is still clean, check zippers, wheels, handles and the lining. Pack a realistic sample load, weigh it and measure the outside again. This is especially useful with a soft-sided or expandable bag, whose packed shape may differ from its empty shape.
Read the manufacturer's lock and care instructions. A lock designation does not establish airline size acceptance or guarantee protection from theft. Keep the product information and receipt; damage, warranty service and a retailer return are different situations.
- Record the model, overall dimensions and empty weight.
- Confirm the return route for the actual seller.
- Leave time to resolve a missing piece or damaged wheel before departure.
