Measure the space you will actually use

Choose a Walmart microwave that fits the kitchen—and the dishes

A microwave can fit the countertop on paper and still be awkward to use because the door cannot swing freely or the surrounding space is too tight. Measure the appliance location and the dishes you heat before comparing prices.

THE USEFUL PART FIRST

Choose the correct installation type, check the manufacturer's required clearances and compare both outside dimensions and usable interior space. Then review cooking power, controls, included parts and the exact Walmart seller and variant.

InstallationCountertop, built-in and over-the-range are distinct

Start with the installation type

A countertop model, an over-the-range unit and a built-in arrangement solve different problems. Do not choose only by width or finish. Read the installation instructions for the exact model, including ventilation, electrical requirements and any necessary mounting or trim components.

GE publishes separate clearance guidance for countertop and over-the-range microwaves. Those requirements are model and installation specific; they should not be transferred to another brand as a universal allowance. Measure the available space with the required ventilation and door movement included, not just the cabinet's empty opening.

Bring your largest everyday dish into the decision

Measure the dinner plate, food container or casserole you expect to use most often. Compare those measurements with the usable interior and turntable details, where applicable. A capacity stated in cubic feet is useful for broad comparison but cannot tell you whether a particular rectangular dish will rotate.

Think about lifting the dish into and out of the proposed location. A high installation and a heavy casserole create a different routine from reheating a mug on a counter. Prioritize the arrangement that lets you use the appliance comfortably.

Pay for functions that match your meals

Compare the rated cooking power and how you will use the controls. Frequent reheating may make simple time adjustment more useful than a long list of presets. If you want convection or another cooking mode, check the accessories, clearances and instructions for that mode rather than treating it as a free extra.

For a shared kitchen, make sure other users can understand the controls. Read how the door opens and whether the display remains legible in the intended position. These details rarely dominate a product headline but affect every use.

Finish the comparison with delivery and installation

Verify the selected capacity, color and model number after changing options on Walmart. Read who sells the item, the condition and the return arrangements. An installation service, old-appliance removal or necessary hardware should appear explicitly in the offer before you count it as included.

After arrival, inspect the unit and confirm it matches the order before installation. Keep the manual and follow its cookware and cleaning instructions. If a dimension or included component is wrong, document the mismatch while the packaging and purchase record are close at hand.

Questions that come up

Can any countertop microwave go inside a cabinet?

Do not assume so. Use the exact model's installation instructions and required ventilation; some installations need a model designed for that purpose.

Does a bigger capacity guarantee my dish fits?

No. Check the usable interior dimensions and turntable arrangement against the dish itself.
