Yes, Apple Pay is supported where Walmart's new Tap to Pay is available. The rollout began August 24, with all U.S. stores and clubs planned by the end of 2026 and fuel stations by mid-2027. That plan does not confirm availability at every store today.
Check the register, not an old search snippet
If paying with your phone is essential, ask the store about contactless checkout before filling the cart. At the register, look for the contactless symbol and follow the terminal's prompts. A national announcement is not proof that one particular lane, department or fuel pump has the feature ready.
Bring a backup payment method during the rollout. This is particularly useful if you are buying something time-sensitive or shopping without easy access to your physical cards. Do not abandon an otherwise workable purchase based on an outdated article, but do not rely on a rollout target as a promise about today's terminal either.
Apple Pay, Walmart Pay and Scan & Go are different
Think about where the payment is being initiated. With Apple Pay, you select a card in your device's wallet and use a supported contactless terminal. Walmart Pay is Walmart's own app-based checkout route. The names can sound interchangeable in a conversation even when the instructions on the screen are different.
Walmart's Tap to Pay FAQ says Apple Pay and other digital wallets are not part of the existing Scan & Go payment experience. If you began shopping through Scan & Go, follow that flow rather than assuming a contactless tap completes every required step. Ask an associate if you are unsure whether the transaction has finished.

If the tap does not complete
Read both the device and terminal. Check that the selected wallet card is the one you intend to use, and ask whether that lane supports contactless payments. If the terminal reports a decline, the issue may concern the card rather than Walmart's acceptance of the wallet.
Before trying another payment method, confirm whether the first attempt completed. Keep the receipt when it does. If your financial account shows a pending entry but you did not receive a completed transaction, compare that entry with the purchase record and ask the appropriate bank or store support team to clarify it.
Do not extend the store announcement to every channel
