One order, two people

Someone else is collecting your Walmart order. Set up the handoff.

Ordering groceries for a parent or sending a partner to collect them should not require handing over your phone. The practical task is to identify the collector on the order and make sure that person has the pickup instructions.

THE USEFUL PART FIRST

Walmart lets you add an alternate pickup person's name and email during checkout or edit Pickup person in the order's Purchase History. Save the change, wait for the Ready for Pickup notice and use the order's check-in instructions. If app check-in fails, call the number on the pickup sign or confirmation.

Change the order, not the account owner

Before checkout, find Pickup person on the review screen and enter the collector's details. For an existing purchase, open the particular order in Purchase History and use Edit beside Pickup person. Confirm that the saved details show the intended person.

An address-book change or a text saying someone is on the way is not the same as updating that order. If you placed two orders, check both. Likewise, changing the collector does not move the order to a different store or change the pickup time.

Send a compact pickup note

Give the collector the correct store, order reference, pickup window and the latest ready notification. Include any collection barcode or instructions supplied for that order through a private message. Do not send your account password, payment details or sign-in verification codes.

Agree who will respond if the store needs a decision about an unwanted replacement. A person collecting groceries for someone else may not know which ingredients or brands are essential. Make those choices before the handoff when possible.

Have a plan if the app does not show the order

A shared pickup task does not mean the original purchase automatically appears in another person's account. Follow the instructions supplied for the alternate collector. Walmart provides a store check-in route using the phone number on the parking sign or in the confirmation when app check-in is not working.

Give the associate the order reference and actual parking location. If the order contains restricted products, follow its identification and recipient requirements; adding a name does not waive them. Before leaving, confirm that every order and any separate bag or bulky item has been handed over.

Questions that come up

Should I share my Walmart login so someone can collect?

Use the alternate-pickup setting and the order's collection instructions instead. Walmart provides a way to name the person without transferring your account.

Can the alternate person collect as soon as I pay?

Wait for the Ready for Pickup notification. Payment or an order confirmation does not mean the store has finished preparing it.
