Use Walmart's SNAP-eligible filters or badges, select EBT at checkout and review the payment split. More expensive substitutions can charge their price difference to a backup method. If an unexpected charge appears, compare the final receipt, substitution record and payment allocation before deciding what went wrong.
Check three amounts before confirming
Identify the eligible-food subtotal, the amount actually assigned to EBT and everything left for another method. A mixed cart needs closer inspection than an all-food list: an item being sold in a grocery order does not itself make it eligible for SNAP.
Check the EBT balance and follow the PIN prompts privately. If the allocation is not what you intend, stop before submitting the order. A saved card icon is not enough evidence that it will pay the eligible portion.

Know what the backup method changes
Walmart's substitution policy distinguishes orders with and without a backup method. Without one, an allowed replacement must be the same price or less; if no suitable replacement is available, the original is canceled and refunded to EBT. With a backup method, a higher replacement price can put the difference on that method.
If that possibility does not fit your budget, review substitution preferences before placing the order. Choose acceptable alternatives or decline replacements for the relevant items. The useful decision is whether you want that purchase under those conditions, not whether another shopper once received a free upgrade.
Separate a checkout issue from a benefits issue
For an unexpected Walmart charge, gather the order, final receipt and replacement details. Identify which amount went to which method. Ask Walmart to explain the specific allocation; do not simply report that the entire order should have been free of other charges.
For a card balance, PIN or benefits eligibility question, Walmart directs shoppers to their state SNAP resources or the number on the card. If an item appears incorrectly labeled on Walmart's site, use Walmart help for that listing. Keep the card number and PIN out of public posts and screenshots.
