Walmart offers custom cakes through its bakery and online ordering options. Select your store to see available designs, then confirm the size, total price, and pickup time. The local bakery must confirm any request the ordering tool does not support.
How many portions should you order?
Start with your guest count. We’ll work out a portion target to discuss with the bakery.
This calculates portions to plan for, not Walmart cake dimensions. Confirm the selected cake’s stated servings, design availability and allergens with the bakery.
Write a cake brief you can actually use
Make the message exact, including spelling, capitalization, and punctuation. A note that says “Happy 8th Birthday, Maya!” leaves less room for misunderstanding than “birthday message for my daughter.” Keep decorative ideas separate from requirements: a color palette can be flexible while a guest’s name cannot.
Choose one main visual idea. If you bring a reference image, say which part matters: the border, color combination, layout, or wording. Treat it as a conversation starter rather than a promise that the bakery will reproduce every detail.
- Event date and a realistic pickup window.
- Number of guests expected to eat cake.
- Preferred flavor and any ingredient questions.
- Exact inscription and primary colors.
- Maximum total budget, including optional decoration.
Order for the guests, then choose the shape
Use the portion planner as a planning estimate, then compare its result with the serving information for the actual cake. Our arithmetic is not a Walmart serving chart. The number of useful slices depends on the cake’s dimensions and the way it is cut.
For a party with several desserts, you may choose a smaller cake and an extra tray of portions. For an event where cake is the only dessert, leave room for seconds. Do not rely on a product photograph to judge how much food it contains.
Make the confirmation your source of truth
Before paying, read back the store, date, size, flavor, message, and final price. Save the confirmation where whoever collects the cake can find it. If plans change, contact the bakery promptly rather than assuming an online note will update an accepted order.
At pickup, open the box with an associate present and check the inscription and design. Ask about storage before leaving. Clear a flat space in the vehicle and make the cake your last errand if it needs prompt refrigeration.

How far ahead should I order?
Walmart's bakery guidance suggests at least 24–48 hours for standard custom cakes and more time for complex orders. The selected bakery's available pickup slots are the deciding factor.
Can the bakery make any design I find online?
Ask first. Available equipment, decorations, permitted designs, and the bakery's schedule can limit a request. Confirm the details before treating a reference picture as an accepted order.
Can I use this guide to confirm an allergy-safe cake?
No. Ask the bakery about the exact ingredients and preparation conditions for your order. A design description or flavor name is not enough to answer an allergy question.
